4/15 – 4/25 And those things happen to be in the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States. St Augustine FL was founded in September 1565. Much of the cities activities and destinations are centered around its history as a port and the four forts that are/were located here. And yes, it also has great beaches.
We were surprised to find a bourbon distillery in St. Augustine so we had yo go check it out. They have a tour and of course, sampling of their bourbon. Its pretty good, although kind of expensive because of its name, St Augustine Distillery.You could go into where they stored the barrels. It smelled pretty good in there!This is the entrance to the Castillo de San Marcos fort. The bricks are cut from the ocean floor and are basically decomposed sea shells. The cool part is that when a cannonball hit the walls, the sea shell bricks cushioned the blow and did not break. Any cannon ball impacts were easily repaired.The fort is well positioned to defend the port entry.Anyone standing guard has a spectacular view!Soldier accommodations. And you can climb all the way to the top.219 steps to the top. And……….Brave girl! They sure do make big rain drops in Florida.Invariably, after a day of sun and fun, we get the guilt look from these two when we get home.This squirrel didn’t want to get left out from getting a handout too. He was pretty brave at times looking for tidbits.
