The Big Loop, which is what we call our journey to explore the United States.

This is a Blog about Al and Debi’s trek around the United States or what we call “The Big Loop”.

Debi and I have embarked on a 12-18 month journey headed North up to Washington, then East along the Canadian border, down into Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, the Dakotas, and then eastward through the middle of the country. After that we’ll turn South along the Atlantic, down to Florida, then across the Gulf coast headed home.

We intentionally don’t have a set agenda except where advance reservations are needed due to a locations popularity.

You can see our proposed route in the purple lines in the map. The red and green dots are locations we are thinking about going to. However, the routes will probably change due to information we find out about a location, weather, or just because we think the route will be interesting.

We are, of course, including our two cats, Marvin and Pixie, in the journey and we may even let them pick a destination or two. (No, they are not outdoor cats).

Our home on wheels is our Grand Design 376TH fifth wheel which we call “Elmer” and it is pulled by our Ford F-450 truck. It too has a name, “Viper”.

Stuffed into the back of Elmer, and we mean stuffed, is our Polaris RZR side by side. Yup, its named too, “Mini”.

Now that you’ve met all the traveler’s in this journey, let the adventures begin! Read on to hear about our explorations and travels!

  1. I’m a little concernedabout Marvin and Pixie. It looks like their held captive in the fire place. Have they been bad cats? Do I need to come and rescue them? Hahaha. Have a great time on your trip.

    1. Yes, they need you to come rescue them in a 42 foot class A RV with lots of windows, a fireplace to keep warm by, lots of food, toys, play time, etc. I’ll send you our schedule so we can hook up and you can attempt to rescue/pry them from Debi. We’ll be near Cour de Aleaine next week. Plan/arm yourself accordingly 🙂
