Gold Beach 4/28 – 5/12 Part 2

This is part 2 of our adventures in Gold Beach Oregon. These are pics and videos about “adventure” rather than gazing at beautiful scenery.

We were staying very close to the mouth of the Rogue river in Oregon and it is subject to a lot of tidal influence. This is an old sunken ship near the shore at low tide.

This is it at low tide.

We’ve been fortunate to chat with locals who always seem to share their favorite places with us. We were told of a local place that has good burgers and beer called Hunter Creek Bar and Grill. Or known to locals as “The Tavern”. Or as the sign says a home for drunken children. It had amazing burgers and great draft beer. Not surprisingly, they didn’t serve Bud Lite. we ate their several times. They had an outside seating area where you could watch and feed the local bird population.

Some kind of hungry bird.

Another kind of hungry bird at the tavern. The tavern was also located next to a creek, Hunter Creek,  that led to the ocean.

In between eating at “The Tavern” we found a place a little North of Gold Beach called “The Red Fish”. Absolutely fantastic food. The reason for that is the chef/owner left the area, the  graduated from the Culinary Institute, head chefed at one or more 5 star restaurants in San Fransisco, and came back home to this small Oregon town and opened this place right on the beach. As you can see, not only is the food great, but the view is amazing.

Mmmmmmmm, yummy fritters! 3 different kinds of corn, onion, seasonal veggies, fried and topped with an apple cider something or other.

This is Debi when I said we’re going on a jet boat ride the next day.

The only jets this little boat might have are the ones coming out the back end of the driver.

A short video from our Rogue River jet boat ride. As you can see, the drivers love going fast and then turning the boat in a quick 360 degree turn. Lots of G forces and splashing.

Yup, goin’ fast. we be goin’ fast!

Not so fast as to not enjoy the view!

A beautiful sunset seen from our RV park.
