There is only one reason for us to visit Walla Walla………It’s wine country and it happens to be the location of our favorite winery, Cayuse. Wee’ve been happily drinking their wine for years and sort of written off coming here as Cayuse doesn’t give tours or wine tastings. But, once again from fellow campers, we learned that there were lot of good wineries here so we decided to explore.
One of the first wine stops we made was at the local community college because they have a wine tasting room and a well regarded wine making program. In general, UC Davis is regarded as the top dog in that area, however, they focus on a lot of theory and technical stuff. The Walla Walla community college focus more on the practical aspect of wine making. The students get to tend the grapes during the growing, harvest them, choose the best way to extract the juice, blend, barrel, and bottle the end result. Its a great experience for them and the graduates are highly sought after.
This is the winery Rotie, Looks kind of austere on the outside but is really nice on the inside.
The Walla Walla region is known for its very rocky soil In some wines it imparts a distinct mineral flavor.
Doing some wine tasting at a Walla Walla winery. And no, the glasses weren’t initially full of wine. Each had just a few sips in it. Great experience at the winery!
Had some great burgers and onion rings at a local establishment called the Red Monkey. They are known for their unique and widely varied way of making Manhattan cocktails.
I like the way they put their stamp of approval on their hamburger buns!
These are fried cheese curds with a little spice in them.Delicious!
Our favorite winery, Cayuse, is expanding their operation to include a new winery called Horsepower. The fields are worked using only horses and manual tools. Pretty cool way to grow grapes. Looking forward to some of the wine.
This is a local brewery where we sat down and enjoyed some excellent beer.. We also went to a distillery across the street where they make brandy with some of the local wine products.
