Getting to our first destination…..

Our delayed start caused us to make some changes in our initial stays. We had planned on Phoenix being our first stop and spend a few days with our good friends, Irma and Doug. However, we were unable to find new reservations due to our delayed start. Turns out we were arriving at the start of baseball Spring training and there were many RV’ers already there. So we decided to catch up to our reservation in Austin by driving a couple of marathon drives to Austin. We had to put a lot of miles behind us each day so there wasn’t much time for lollygagging around and photo ops. Here’s a summary of those days.

  • Day 1/Stop 1 Wilcox, AZ. (Harvest Host location, more on this in another post) Drove 500 miles that day and boy were my butt and shoulders worn out. We stopped at the Cattle Rest saloon and turns out it was a pretty fun stop. It was western line dancing night and there were about a dozen older couples doing all kinds of line dancing moves. And they were dressed to the nines in western attire! It was pretty late when we arrived and all we wanted was some food. But, it was a fun atmosphere due to the line dancing crowd and a bartender named Max. Max (a woman), was all sass, brass, tits, and ass and ample amount of each. Debi wanted a Manhattan cocktail and Max didn’t know how to make it. So Debi showed her how. We has some great pizza and wings for dinner and headed off to get ready for our next marathon day.
  • Day 2/Stop 2 Balmorhea, TX 423 miles this day. We initially planned for this to be a shorter drive but the Harvest Host site we chose turned out to be on the border to Mexico and felt like it was in the bad part of Tijuana. Sooooooooooo, we decided it to be prudent to drive on to another location a few hours away. We stayed at Saddleback RV park right off highway 10. Nice RV stop with a restaurant on site. Since it as another long drive, we ate outside at the restaurant and were entertained by about a dozen similar looking kittens/cats.
  • Day 3/Stop 3 Ingram TX. Only 296 miles today. (Harvest Host location) This was the coolest Harvest Host location we have stayed at so far. This was a outdoor/indoor theater but the most interesting part was that it has an outdoor 3/4 scale Stonehenge replica. Just like the one in England. Had a great dinner at the restaurant next door and sat outside with a view overlooking the river. Which, BTW, we were camped beside. It was an amazing spot to be parked at. We actually took some photos here.

It was a little cold in Ingram.
Great view of the river from our site
